The 2007 Compass has been an excellent car. I still have it but just bought a newer 2018 model with 27k miles. I have had it 14 years and put 216,481 miles on it.

I bought the 2007 Jeep Compass Sport 4x4 5 speed manual brand new. Due to my experience with this Jeep I have completely sworn off of the brand and wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy!! I don't honestly think anyone has the time for me to list the number of things that have gone wrong and repairs I've done on this horribly built vehicle! I have another vehicle (Honda) that is 4 years older that I have well over 200k miles on that has given me little to no trouble other then you usual wear and tear repairs. I can't even imagine what this vehicle would have cost me had I taken it in to a shop for all the repairs I've done on it myself. I do most of the repairs myself minus any suspension issues it's had which I paid 5k on just last year having nearly the entire rear end replaced.

I was extra aware to get it washed and all the salt cleaned off and this still happened. Passenger space is slightly cramped by the transmission tunnel, and the boot floor is rather high but features a waterproof bin, perfect for wellies.I've only had this car for 5 short years and in that 5 years I have dumbed nearly 10k into fixing things on this vehicle, most recently the entire subframe rusting through and nearly loosing my drivetrain (which I am not fixing, it's going to the dump and I'll be more then thrilled to see it smashed to bits)! That's even with me being aware of the issue of rusting being I live in Indiana and we get a bit of snow every winter with plenty of salt on the roads.

This is a massive rollback (or rollforward your choice) canvas roof – 18 seconds open or shut at speeds up to 85mph, and aluminium ribbed to Thatcham's full security approval. In fact, there are only four things on the options list: metallic paint, sunscreen glass, MyGIG infotainment system, and 'Sky Slider' roof. This isn't enough to completely avoid mention of the scratchy plastics in places, but compared to the opposition – Freelander, X-Trail, X3, etc – the Jeep is well specified and offers good value: £24,495 for the manual, £25,595 for the automatic. There's only one trim level – Limited – and this includes lots of leather and plenty of gizmos. The brakes are a slight concern, however – 1985kg of Jeep seeing them soften distinctly over Welsh mountain roads.Ĭlick 'Next' below to read our verdict on the Jeep Cherokee How's the interior? Combined with 174bhp, that's good enough for 62mph in 10.5 seconds, and sensible overtaking. The steering is well weighted – never a given in a Chrysler Group product – and you get plenty of information about exactly what the chassis is doing via your backside.īut happily the auto handles more torque: 339lb ft compared to 302. Even on the motorway the ride feeds back tiny vibrations of disgruntlement through steering wheel rim and seat base – a relaxing long distance companion it is not. This doesn’t mean a luxury cruising experience. Jeep has done plenty of work on the Cherokee's all-new suspension to redress this past shortcoming. This is not an old-school off-roader in the sense that it fears tarmac and will run miles across country to avoid corners. But the thing we should immediately point out about the Jeep Cherokee's handling is that it does actually have some. It shares a platform with the Dodge Nitro.Ĭlick 'Next' below to read more of our Jeep Cherokee first UK drive Ah. Anyway, it’s more likely Jeep is concerned about the Cherokee's on-road experience. Doesn't matter much once it's muddy, of course, and make no mistake, with or without caravan it is excellent off-road. Traditional Jeep or just old – you decide. Those with suspicious minds are probably already wondering what Jeep is trying to distract us from.
